Eduards photoetched sets are carefully developed to detail plastic model kits of aircraft, armoured fighting vehicles and ships. These sets contain parts for adding details that are missing or overscale and/or replacing parts in a kit. The process for making these sets is not very complicated and involves a pattern being applied to a sheet of brass which is then etched with an acid that eats away the surface that is not needed. The thickness of the brass plate is 0.16 mm or, for some special sets, 0.2 mm. The parts are etched in two levels to give some depth and detail. The parts are then given a thin nickel coating to stop oxidation and help glues and paint to stick better.
