The Antonov An-24 is a twin-engine turboprop transport aircraft that has served in both civilian and military roles since the Cold War era.
Developed by the Antonov Design Bureau, the An-24 was designed for reliable operation in challenging conditions, including short and unprepared airstrips.
Within the Ukrainian Air Forces, the An-24 has been employed primarily as a light transport and utility aircraft.
Its roles have included personnel transport, logistics support, liaison duties, and training missions.
The aircraft’s rugged construction and dependable performance have made it well suited to regional operations and sustained service life.
Powered by two turboprop engines, the An-24 offers good range, stability, and efficiency, allowing it to operate effectively from austere airfields.
The high-mounted wing provides excellent ground clearance and favourable handling characteristics, particularly during take-off and landing on rough surfaces.
