The 40 mm Gun Motor Carriage, M34, was a mobile anti-aircraft artillery vehicle employed by the United States during the Korean War (1950-1953).
It was designed to provide ground forces with effective air defense against enemy aircraft.
Key features of the M34 include:
Armament: The primary armament of the M34 was the 40 mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun, a proven and reliable weapon with a high rate of fire. The vehicle was typically equipped with a quad-mount, which means it had four Bofors guns mounted on a single carriage, allowing for a rapid and continuous stream of anti-aircraft fire.
Mobility: The M34 was mounted on a wheeled chassis, which provided good mobility on roads and in relatively flat terrain. Its mobility allowed it to be quickly deployed to various locations as needed to defend against enemy air threats.
Crew: The vehicle had a crew of several soldiers, including gunners and a commander, responsible for operating and firing the anti-aircraft guns. The crew worked together to track and engage enemy aircraft.
Role: The M34's primary role was air defense, but it could also be used for ground support against lightly armored vehicles and infantry when necessary.
