Airfix 1/24 Junkers Ju-87B-2 'Stuka' # 18002V
The Junkers Ju87B Stuka was a German dive bomber and ground-attack aircraft that was used during World War II.
It was developed by the Junkers company in the mid-1930s and played a significant role in the early stages of the war, particularly during the Blitzkrieg campaigns in Poland, France, and the Balkans.
The Ju87B Stuka had a distinctive inverted gull wing design, which gave it excellent low-speed handling and stability.
It was powered by a single Junkers Jumo 211 inverted V-12 engine, which gave it a top speed of around 240 miles per hour and a range of up to 500 miles.
The aircraft was armed with two 7.92mm machine guns in the wings and a 37mm cannon under the fuselage, as well as bombs and other ordnance.
It was designed to perform precision bombing and ground-attack missions, and was highly effective in this role.
One of the most famous features of the Ju87B Stuka was its Jericho trumpet, a wailing siren that was attached to the undercarriage and was used to terrify enemy troops and civilians during dive-bombing attacks.
Despite its early successes, the Ju87B Stuka was vulnerable to enemy fighters, and as the war progressed, it was gradually replaced by newer and more capable aircraft.
However, it remained in service throughout the war, and some examples were even used as glider tugs and training aircraft in the final stages of the conflict.
Today, a few examples of the Ju87B Stuka are preserved in museums and private collections around the world, and it is considered a classic example of World War II military aviation.
