HMS Suffolk was a County-class heavy cruiser of the Royal Navy, commissioned in 1928 and serving extensively throughout the Second World War.
Designed for long-range operations, she combined good endurance with heavy armament, making her well suited to patrol, escort, and reconnaissance duties across the globe.
HMS Suffolk is best known for her crucial role in the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941.
Using her early radar equipment, she successfully shadowed the enemy through poor weather and darkness, maintaining contact until British heavy units could engage.
This contribution proved vital to the eventual destruction of Bismarck.
During the war, Suffolk served in the Atlantic, Arctic, and Indian Ocean theatres, escorting convoys, supporting fleet operations, and undergoing several refits that improved her radar, anti-aircraft defences, and wartime survivability.
This model depicts HMS Suffolk in her wartime configuration, featuring the distinctive County-class hull, twin main gun turrets, and evolving superstructure typical of British cruisers of the era.
It is an excellent subject for naval modellers interested in early-war radar operations, Atlantic convoy battles, and iconic Royal Navy cruisers.
