An RAF Bomber Re-supply Set (WWII) represents the essential ground equipment and personnel that kept Britain’s bomber force operational during the Second World War.
At the height of the strategic bombing campaign, aircraft of RAF Bomber Command required constant servicing between missions—often under immense pressure and tight turnaround times.
Typical re-supply scenes included ground crews refuelling aircraft using fuel bowsers, re-arming bombers with high-explosive and incendiary payloads, and performing vital maintenance checks.
Bomb trolleys, ladders, tool kits, and starter equipment were all part of the organised effort to prepare aircraft such as the Avro Lancaster or Handley Page Halifax for their next sortie.
Personnel played a crucial role in this process. Armourers carefully loaded bombs into the aircraft’s bays, engineers inspected engines and airframes, and drivers manoeuvred vehicles across often dimly lit airfields.
Operations frequently took place at night, adding urgency and difficulty to already demanding tasks.
A re-supply set captures this behind-the-scenes activity, highlighting the teamwork and logistical precision that underpinned every bombing mission.
