The de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth is a classic biplane, originally designed in the 1930s as a primary trainer aircraft for the Royal Air Force (RAF).
It became one of the most iconic training aircraft in aviation history, helping to prepare thousands of pilots for service during World War II.
Its design is characterized by a simple yet elegant structure with dual wings (biplane configuration), a tailwheel landing gear, and an open cockpit, giving it a vintage and nostalgic appearance.
Powered by a 4-cylinder de Havilland Gipsy Major engine producing around 130 horsepower, the Tiger Moth had a maximum speed of approximately 109 mph (176 km/h) and a range of 302 miles (486 km).
Its lightweight, nimble handling made it ideal for teaching basic flying techniques, aerobatics, and navigation.
With its forgiving flight characteristics, it was perfect for novice pilots but still challenging enough to sharpen their skills.
The Tiger Moth’s durability and ease of maintenance allowed it to remain in use long after World War II, not only for military training but also for recreational flying and as a crop duster in civilian aviation.
Today, many of these aircraft are still flying, maintained by aviation enthusiasts and collectors, preserving a piece of early aviation history.
