Airfix 1/72 Shorts Sky-Van # 04018V
The Shorts Skyvan is a distinctive British twin-turboprop utility aircraft developed in the 1960s by Short Brothers of Belfast.
Instantly recognisable by its boxy fuselage and high-mounted wings, the Skyvan was designed for Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) performance and maximum cargo flexibility.
Powered by two turboprop engines and featuring a large rear loading ramp, the Skyvan could operate from short, rough airstrips while carrying freight, vehicles, medical supplies, or up to 19 passengers.
Its square-section fuselage maximised internal volume, making it popular with military forces, humanitarian operators, and skydiving clubs worldwide.
The aircraft earned a reputation for rugged reliability and versatility, serving in transport, maritime patrol, air ambulance, and parachute training roles.
Though unconventional in appearance, the Shorts Skyvan remains a practical and much-loved workhorse in specialised aviation operations.
