The Opel Blitz Lorry and PaK 40 Field Gun combination was a key element of German mobility and anti-tank capability during the Second World War.
The Opel Blitz, produced by Opel, was one of the most widely used trucks in German service, valued for its reliability and versatility across a range of roles.
Typically configured as a 3-ton lorry, the Opel Blitz was used to transport troops, supplies, and equipment, as well as to tow artillery pieces such as the formidable 7.5cm PaK 40 anti-tank gun.
The PaK 40 was one of Germany’s most effective anti-tank weapons, capable of penetrating the armour of most Allied tanks at typical combat ranges.
In the field, the Blitz provided the mobility needed to move the PaK 40 quickly into position, allowing German forces to respond to advancing enemy armour.
Once deployed, the gun could be set up by its crew to deliver powerful and accurate fire, making it a significant threat on the battlefield.
This combination was widely used by units of the Wehrmacht across multiple fronts, including the Eastern Front and Western Europe.
It reflected the German emphasis on combining mobility with effective anti-tank defences.
Together, the Opel Blitz lorry and PaK 40 field gun represent the practical integration of transport and firepower, playing a crucial role in Germany’s defensive and offensive operations during the war.
