Robin Hood is the legendary English folk hero whose stories are traditionally set in Sherwood Forest during the medieval period. Renowned as a skilled archer and master of woodland guerrilla tactics, Robin Hood is celebrated for defying corrupt authority and championing justice, famously “robbing from the rich to give to the poor.”
Often portrayed as an outlaw nobleman or yeoman, Robin Hood leads a band of loyal followers known as the Merry Men, including Little John, Friar Tuck, and Will Scarlet.
Together, they oppose the tyranny of the Sheriff of Nottingham and the unjust rule carried out in the absence of King Richard the Lionheart.
Enduring for centuries through ballads, literature, film, and television, Robin Hood represents ideals of fairness, courage, and resistance against oppression.
His blend of historical setting and heroic myth has made him one of the most recognisable figures in English folklore and a timeless subject for storytelling, historical interpretation, and figure modelling.
