Details

The Plymouth GTX was first released in 1967 as the Belvedere GTX by the Plymouth division.

Throughout the 1971 model year, it was marketed as a mid-sized, upscale-trimmed performance muscle car.

A blacked-out grille and distinctive rear fascia, fibreglass simulated hood scoops with optional racing stripes, a chrome "pop-open" gasoline filler cap, and a tachometer located on the centre console distinguished the GTX from the Belvedere.

As a "gentleman's muscle automobile," the GTX was marketed.

The "Super Commando 440," a 440 cu in (7.2 L) V8 engine rated at 375 horsepower, was standard (280 kW).

Chrysler's 426 cu in (7.0 L) Hemi was available as an option.

A heavy-duty suspension system was also included as standard equipment.
