Mitsubishi Eclipse is a four-generation sport compact automobile that was produced by Mitsubishi between 1989 and 2011.
In 1996, a convertible body variant was offered.
The rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports share the car chassis and parts with the first two versions (1st Gen and 2nd Gen).
They were created during Mitsubishi Motors' close collaboration with Chrysler.
Diamond-Star Motors was the name of their joint venture (DSM).
The first two versions were sold in Japan by Mitsubishi Car Plaza, a specialised Japanese retail chain.
The Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus shared a revised platform with the third-generation (3rd Gen). The fourth and final (4th Gen) Eclipse was unveiled in May 2005, replacing the Chrysler platform used in the previous three versions with the PS platform.
The Eclipse was named after an unbroken 18th-century English racehorse who had won 26 races, according to Mitsubishi Motors.
Japan, North America, the Middle East, South Korea, the Philippines, Brazil, and China were among the first countries to sell the Eclipse.
The final Eclipse rolled off the manufacturing line at the end of August 2011 and was auctioned off, with the proceeds going to charity.
