Kirishima was a fast battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy, and one of the four vessels of the renowned Kongō class.
Originally commissioned as a battlecruiser during the First World War, Kirishima was later extensively modernised, transforming her into a powerful and fast capital ship well suited to carrier escort and fleet action.
During the Second World War, Kirishima took part in numerous major operations across the Pacific, including the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Indian Ocean Raid, and early campaign actions throughout Southeast Asia.
Her high speed, heavy main armament, and long operational range made her a key component of Japan’s fast strike forces.
Kirishima is best remembered for her dramatic role in the Naval Battles of Guadalcanal in November 1942.
During a night engagement with US forces, she was critically damaged by the battleship USS Washington and subsequently scuttled, marking the loss of one of Japan’s most famous capital ships.
This model represents I.J.N. Battleship Kirishima in her wartime configuration, capturing the distinctive pagoda-style superstructure, powerful main battery, and elegant hull lines that define the Kongō-class.
It is an excellent subject for naval modellers interested in fast battleships, Pacific War history, and iconic Japanese warships.
