The I.J.N. Battleship Kongo (1944) represents the famous Japanese fast battleship in her final and most heavily modified wartime configuration during the closing stages of the Pacific War.
Originally designed as a battlecruiser and later extensively modernised, Kongo combined high speed with powerful firepower, making her one of the most versatile capital ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
By 1944, Kongo had been upgraded with enhanced anti-aircraft armament, additional radar equipment, and improved defensive measures to counter the growing Allied air threat.
She took part in major late-war operations, including the Battle of Leyte Gulf, before being sunk by a US submarine in November 1944.
This model captures the distinctive appearance of Kongo in 1944, showcasing her iconic pagoda mast, heavy secondary armament, and complex deck layout.
It is an excellent choice for naval modellers interested in late-war IJN subjects, offering strong historical significance and plenty of scope for super-detailing and weathering.
