The German battleship Bismarck remains one of the most iconic and formidable warships of the 20th century.
Commissioned in 1940, she represented the pinnacle of Kriegsmarine surface warfare design—combining immense firepower, advanced engineering, and imposing scale.
At over 50,000 tons fully loaded and armed with eight 38cm (15-inch) main guns, Bismarck was built to dominate the Atlantic and challenge Allied naval supremacy.
In May 1941, Bismarck embarked on her fateful Operation Rheinübung, partnered with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen. During this dramatic sortie, she sank HMS Hood, the pride of the Royal Navy, in one of the most famous naval engagements in history.
Hunted relentlessly across the North Atlantic, Bismarck was eventually brought to battle and sunk after a fierce multi-day pursuit, cementing her place in military legend.
