The Bell P-39N Airacobra was an American fighter aircraft used during World War II.
Distinctive for its mid-engine design, the P-39N had its engine mounted behind the pilot, driving a tractor propeller via a long shaft.
This configuration allowed for a more concentrated nose armament, including a 37mm cannon firing through the propeller hub, making it effective in ground attack roles.
The P-39N variant, introduced in 1943, featured an improved engine and increased fuel capacity for extended range.
While it saw limited success in the European theater, it was highly valued by Soviet pilots on the Eastern Front for its durability and firepower in low-altitude combat.
