A vital component of the Red Army’s wartime logistics, the BZ-42 refueler played a crucial role in keeping Soviet vehicles, aircraft, and machinery moving across the vast Eastern Front.
Built on the reliable GAZ-AA truck chassis, the BZ-42 was a mobile fuel transport and dispensing system, featuring a cylindrical tank mounted on the truck bed and an additional 1-axle fuel tank trailer to extend its range and capacity.
Based on the licensed Ford Model AA design, the GAZ-AA was the backbone of Soviet military transport.
The BZ-42 conversion added a pressurised fuel system, hoses, and pumping equipment—allowing it to refuel tanks, trucks, and aircraft in the field.
This setup was essential for rapid deployment and sustained combat operations, especially during offensives when fuel lines were stretched thin.
The included single-axle trailer made it even more versatile, enabling front-line units to transport significant quantities of fuel across rough terrain, often under enemy fire or in extreme weather conditions.
