The Carro Veloce L3/35, often referred to as the L3/35, was an Italian tankette used during the interwar period and early World War II.
It was a compact and light armored vehicle designed primarily for reconnaissance and infantry support.
The "twin 34/37M Gebauer MG" refers to a variant of the L3/35 that was equipped with two machine guns designed by Gebauer.
The L3/35 tankette was known for its small size and relatively modest firepower. It featured sloped armor that provided some protection against small arms fire and shrapnel.
The tankette's main armament usually consisted of a single 6.5mm or 8mm machine gun, but the variant you mentioned, equipped with twin 34/37M Gebauer MGs, had an additional machine gun for increased firepower.
These tankettes were not designed for front-line combat against enemy tanks but were more suitable for reconnaissance, patrolling, and providing close infantry support.
They had good mobility and were able to traverse various terrains. However, their limited armor and firepower made them vulnerable in direct combat situations.
The L3/35 tankettes were used by the Italian army during the early stages of World War II, particularly during the North African campaign.
They were often employed alongside other, more capable armored vehicles and infantry forces.
While the L3/35 had certain limitations, it represented an interesting historical development in armored warfare, showcasing the concept of very light and mobile armored vehicles, which had an impact on future tank designs and doctrines.
