The Land-Wasser-Schlepper (LWS) was a German amphibious tractor developed during the Second World War for engineering and transport roles.
The mid-production variant introduced improvements in hull shape and superstructure design, offering better stability and reliability in water operations.
Powered by a Maybach engine, the LWS could tow barges, transport supplies, or ferry troops across rivers and coastal waters.
Though originally intended for large-scale amphibious operations such as Seelöwe (the planned invasion of Britain), it mainly served in logistical roles on the Eastern Front and in other theatres.
Rare and unusual, the LWS highlights Germany’s attempts to create specialised amphibious vehicles during the war.
