The Kilo Type 636 is a modern Russian diesel-electric attack submarine, renowned for its stealth and effectiveness in coastal and deep-water operations.
As part of the Improved Kilo-class, it features a quiet propulsion system, advanced sonar, and the ability to launch cruise missiles such as the Kalibr system.
Designed for anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare, as well as intelligence gathering, the 636 variant boasts a submerged displacement of around 4,000 tons and a range of up to 7,500 nautical miles.
Its low acoustic signature has earned it the NATO nickname “Black Hole” due to its difficulty to detect underwater.
