The US M8 Armoured Trailer was a specialised piece of equipment developed during the Second World War to provide additional protected stowage for armoured and reconnaissance units.
Designed to be towed behind vehicles such as the M8 Greyhound armoured car and other compatible U.S. military vehicles, the trailer offered secure transport for ammunition, fuel, rations, and sensitive equipment in forward areas.
Unlike standard cargo trailers, the M8 Armoured Trailer featured armoured plating to protect its contents from small-arms fire and shell splinters, ensuring vital supplies could be carried closer to the front lines.
Its compact, low-profile design helped maintain mobility while minimising its silhouette, making it suitable for reconnaissance and support roles operating in exposed environments.
The trailer saw limited but practical use with U.S. Army units in the European Theatre, particularly where fast-moving armoured formations required additional supply capacity without sacrificing protection.
Though less well known than the vehicles it supported, the M8 Armoured Trailer represents an important example of wartime logistical innovation.
