Das Werk 1/16 Sd.Kfz.234/2 "PUMA" # 16006
The Sd.Kfz. 234/2 "Puma" was a German eight-wheeled armoured reconnaissance vehicle used during World War II.
Developed in response to the need for a fast, versatile scout car capable of both reconnaissance and combat, the "Puma" stood out for its mobility, firepower, and armoured protection.
Key Features:
Design and Mobility: The "Puma" featured a sleek, armoured hull and an advanced eight-wheel drive, providing exceptional off-road capability and a top speed of around 85 km/h (53 mph). Its eight-wheel configuration allowed for enhanced manoeuvrability and stability on varied terrains.
Armament: It was armed with a 5 cm KwK 39/1 L/60 cannon housed in a fully rotating turret, enabling it to engage enemy light vehicles and infantry effectively. A 7.92 mm MG 42 machine gun was also mounted coaxially.
Crew and Functionality: The vehicle typically accommodated a crew of four: commander, driver, gunner, and radio operator. The driver's position was designed to be reversible, allowing for quick changes in direction without turning the entire vehicle.
Protection: The "Puma" was well-protected for a reconnaissance vehicle, with armour thickness varying from 8 mm to 30 mm. This provided adequate defence against small arms fire and shrapnel.
Operational Use:
Introduced in 1943, the Sd.Kfz. 234/2 "Puma" saw action primarily on the Eastern and Western fronts. Its design emphasized speed and reconnaissance, but it also provided direct fire support when needed.
The "Puma" was praised for its balance of speed, firepower, and protection, making it one of the most advanced armoured cars of its time.
Its reliability and versatility made it a valuable asset for the German Wehrmacht in various reconnaissance roles until the end of the war.
