The Messerschmitt P.1101 was a late-war German jet fighter prototype developed under the Luftwaffe’s Emergency Fighter Program.
Designed with a sleek fuselage and swept wings that could be adjusted to different angles on the ground, it represented an advanced step toward variable-geometry aircraft.
Powered by a single BMW 003 turbojet, the P.1101 promised high speed and agility, but the war ended before it could be completed or flown.
Captured by U.S. forces in 1945, the unfinished prototype was taken to America, where it influenced postwar jet development, most notably the Bell X-5 experimental aircraft.
