The German Army Wiesel 1 Fahrschulpanzer NDV (Driver Training Vehicle) is a specialized version of the lightweight Wiesel AWC, developed for training drivers rather than combat use.
The Wiesel (“weasel”) family was designed for rapid deployment, particularly with airborne forces, offering mobility and versatility in a very compact platform.
The Fahrschulpanzer variant is used by the Bundeswehr to train new operators in handling tracked armored vehicles.
Unlike combat-configured Wiesels, such as those armed with autocannons or anti-tank missiles, this training version typically has its weapon systems removed or replaced with dummy equipment.
Instead, the focus is on driving instruction, vehicle control, and crew coordination.
The “NDV” designation refers to an updated configuration (often associated with modernization or standardization improvements), which can include enhanced driver controls, safety features, and sometimes dual-control systems.
These allow an instructor to monitor and, if necessary, override the trainee’s inputs—similar to a dual-control setup in a driving school car.
