The Vultee P-66 Vanguard was an unusual and often overlooked American fighter aircraft developed at the beginning of the Second World War.

Originally intended for export customers, the P-66 combined modern design features of the early 1940s with a lightweight, manoeuvrable airframe that delivered surprisingly strong performance for its class.

Powered by a 1,200 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engine, the Vanguard offered a respectable top speed, good climb rate, and smooth handling characteristics.
