Dragon 1/35 Flak 38 (t) Ausf M Late # 6590
The Flak 38 (t) Ausf M Late was a German anti-aircraft gun that was developed during World War II.
It was a modified version of the Czechoslovakian 37mm anti-aircraft gun, which had been captured by the Germans during the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939.
The Flak 38 (t) Ausf M Late was mounted on a two-wheeled carriage and was operated by a crew of four.
It had a maximum range of around 4,200 meters and a maximum rate of fire of 220 rounds per minute.
The gun was equipped with both armour-piercing and high-explosive shells, making it effective against both aircraft and ground targets.
The "t" in the name Flak 38 (t) Ausf M Late indicated that it was a Czechoslovakian design that had been modified for German use.
The "Ausf M" designation indicated that it was a late production variant of the gun.
The Flak 38 (t) Ausf M Late saw service on both the Eastern and Western Fronts during World War II, and was used primarily in a ground role as an anti-tank gun.
However, it was also used to provide air defense for German positions and was effective against low-flying aircraft.
Overall, the Flak 38 (t) Ausf M Late was a versatile and effective weapon that played an important role in the German military during World War II.
Its ability to engage both air and ground targets made it a valuable asset on the battlefield, and it was widely used in a variety of roles throughout the war.
The Flakpanzer 38(t) (Sd.Kfz.140), officially signed into existence on October 15 1943, served as an interim anti-aircraft platform before the Flakpanzer IV was fielded.
Based on the Czech-designed 38(t) Ausf.M chassis with a mid-mounted engine, the fighting compartment was mounted at the rear of the vehicle.
The Flakpanzer was armed with a single 2cm FlaK38 cannon of L/112.5 calibre and was supplied with 1040 ammunition rounds onboard.
As an interim Flakpanzer design, it had obvious inadequacies such as limited armour protection for the crew and a lack of firepower from the small main armament.
Thus, BMM only produced 141 such vehicles between November 1943 and February 1944.
Many of them saw combat on the Western Front in units like the 12th SS Panzer Division “Hitlerjugend.”
The top armoured sections could fold down to allow 360^(o) traverse of the cannon at low elevations.
This also meant the weapon could be used against ground targets.
Dragon has created a Late Production model of the Flakpanzer 38(t) auf Selbstfahrlafette 38(t) Ausf.M in 1/35 scale.
This tracked kit has some stunning detail and features a highly accurate miniature replica of the FlaK38 cannon.
The cannon can be displayed with the gun elevated at 0 ^(o), 20 ^(o), 40 ^(o) or 60^(o), and it also features new hand wheels and gun-sight brackets.
The gun barrel is slide moulded, which enables the incorporation of a hollow muzzle.
Just like the real vehicle, modellers can depict the fighting compartment armoured shields raised or lowered.
The spent-shell case is made from photo-etched metal, and Dragon’s patented Magic Tracks take the bore out of assembling the track runs.
This is a fine model of a late-production version of the Flakpanzer 38(t), and it will look impressive in any vignette or diorama.
