Dragon 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.E Sd.Kfz 181 Tiger 1 “Tunisian Initial” # 6608
The Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.E, commonly known as the Tiger I, was a heavy tank used by the German army during World War II.
The "Tunisian Initial" variant of the Tiger I refers to the tanks that were used by German forces during the North African campaign, specifically in the initial stages of the campaign.
The Tiger I was a formidable tank, with thick armour and a powerful 88mm gun.
It was one of the heaviest and most well-armed tanks of its time and was a feared opponent on the battlefield.
The Tiger I was designed to engage enemy tanks at long range and was also effective against fortifications and infantry.
The "Tunisian Initial" variant of the Tiger I featured some modifications that were specific to the North African campaign.
These modifications included the addition of a dust filter on the engine intake, as well as the application of a sand-coloured paint scheme to help the tanks blend in with the desert environment.
The Tiger I saw action in North Africa from November 1942 until the end of the campaign in May 1943.
Despite the tank's impressive performance on the battlefield, the harsh desert environment and the difficulties of supply and maintenance in the area meant that the Tiger I was not as effective in North Africa as it had been on the Eastern Front.
Overall, the Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.E "Tunisian Initial" variant of the Tiger I was an impressive and feared tank that played a significant role in the North African campaign during World War II.
Its combination of heavy armour and powerful firepower made it a formidable opponent on the battlefield.
The Tigers of the 501 Heavy Battalion led several battles against American, British and French forces, including Sidi Bouzid.
Sent to Tunisia in November 1942 to bolster Rommel’s army, they inspired “Tiger phobia” in the Allied tank crews.
Whether in the open desert of the south, or the hills and farms of the north, they were a decisive weapon.
These Tigers with their outsize turret numbers, their green “tropical” camouflage and their prototype equipment, have a unique appearance.
Dragon has incorporated new research into this model, accurately reproducing the most famous veteran Tigers of the 1st Company.
