Details

The USS Laffey (DD-459) was a Benson-class destroyer of the United States Navy, commissioned in 1942 during World War II.

Named after Bartlett Laffey, a Civil War Medal of Honor recipient, the Laffey was designed for versatility, featuring anti-aircraft and anti-submarine capabilities, as well as torpedo armament.

The ship played a significant role in the Pacific Theater, participating in critical naval battles such as the Battle of Guadalcanal.

On November 13, 1942, during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, the USS Laffey was sunk by Japanese naval forces.

Her brave actions and sacrifice earned her a Presidential Unit Citation and a legacy of valor in naval history.
