The Fokker D.VII (OAW), often referred to simply as the Fokker D.VII, was a World War I German fighter aircraft that gained a fearsome reputation as one of the most formidable fighters of its time.
Designed by Reinhold Platz and produced by the German firm Oesterreichische Flugzeugwerke (OAW), it first entered service in 1918.
The Fokker D.VII (OAW) featured a distinctive and aerodynamically advanced design with a thick airfoil and a fully synchronized machine gun, allowing for accurate and deadly firepower.
Its powerful Mercedes D.III engine provided it with exceptional speed and climbing abilities, making it a formidable adversary for Allied aircraft.
What set the Fokker D.VII apart from other fighters of its era was its superb maneuverability and overall combat performance.
It quickly earned a reputation for being easy to fly and highly effective in dogfights.
Its success in the air was so pronounced that it led to the famous "Fokker Scourge," a period during World War I when German D.VII pilots wreaked havoc on their Allied counterparts.
The Fokker D.VII (OAW) played a crucial role in the latter stages of World War I, but its service was short-lived as the war came to an end later that year.
Despite its limited operational time, its impact on aviation history was substantial, and it remains an iconic symbol of German aviation during the Great War.
