The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21bis represents the ultimate evolution of one of the most produced and recognisable jet fighters in history.

Introduced in the early 1970s, the “Fishbed-N” variant was the final and most refined version of the MiG-21 lineage — a high-speed, supersonic interceptor that became the backbone of Soviet and Warsaw Pact air forces during the Cold War.

Powered by the Tumansky R-25-300 turbojet engine, the MiG-21bis could reach speeds exceeding Mach 2.05 and climb rapidly to altitudes over 58,000 ft (17,500 m).

Its compact delta-wing design offered superb agility and simplicity, making it a formidable adversary in close-range dogfights while remaining cost-effective and easy to maintain.

The “bis” variant introduced significant upgrades over earlier MiG-21 models — including improved avionics, enhanced radar and navigation systems, a stronger airframe, and increased fuel capacity.

It carried a potent mix of air-to-air missiles, bombs, and a 23 mm twin-barrel cannon, giving it versatile capability as both an interceptor and ground-attack aircraft.
