The Caproni Ca.100 is an Italian biplane trainer aircraft from the late 1920s, also known as the Caproncino.
Initially designed for land use, it was adapted for maritime operations by fitting it with floats and a radial engine.
Floats Version
The floatplane variant, designated Ca.100 Idro, was equipped with twin floats instead of the conventional landing gear.
This modification allowed it to operate from water surfaces, making it ideal for training naval aviators.
The floats were sturdy and provided stability for take-offs and landings on water.
Radial Engine
The Ca.100's radial engine was typically a seven-cylinder de Havilland Gipsy III or a similar model, depending on the specific variant.
This engine configuration was selected for its reliability and ease of maintenance, crucial for a trainer aircraft.
The radial design, with its cylinders arranged in a circle around the crankcase, offered better cooling and performance for the Ca.100’s operational roles.
