The Vought F-8J Crusader was an upgraded variant of the legendary F-8 series, known as the U.S. Navy's last true gunfighter.
Developed in the late 1960s, the F-8J featured strengthened airframe components, improved avionics, enlarged wing surfaces, and upgraded landing gear for better carrier operations.
Retaining its four 20mm cannons and missile capability, the Crusader continued to serve as a fast and agile carrier-based air superiority fighter.
The F-8J saw service during the later years of the Vietnam War, excelling in both dogfighting and strike escort missions.
Its distinctive variable-incidence wing and sleek profile made it one of the most iconic naval fighters of its era, bridging the gap between traditional gunfighters and the missile age.
