The USS Greeneville (SSN-772) is a Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered attack submarine of the United States Navy, commissioned in 1996.
Built for fast, stealthy operations, she is equipped with advanced sonar, torpedoes, and cruise missiles, enabling her to carry out anti-submarine, anti-surface, and strike missions.
Named after Greeneville, Tennessee, she gained particular notoriety for the 2001 collision with the Japanese fishing vessel Ehime Maru.
Despite this, Greeneville has continued to serve as a capable front-line submarine, embodying the power and versatility of the Los Angeles-class in Cold War and post-Cold War naval operations.
