Details

The F4U-1D Corsair was an improved late-war variant of the famous carrier fighter, designed to boost the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps’ striking power in the Pacific.

It introduced twin under-wing pylons for carrying bombs or rockets, giving it strong ground-attack capability while retaining the Corsair’s exceptional speed and climb.

The -1D also featured a raised pilot seat and improved canopy for better visibility during carrier operations.

Rugged, fast, and versatile, the F4U-1D proved itself as a first-rate fighter-bomber in the hard-fought campaigns of 1944–45.
