USS Stevens (DD-479) was a Fletcher-class destroyer of the U.S. Navy, commissioned in 1943 and active during World War II.
Uniquely fitted with a catapult and floatplane for reconnaissance early in its service, this feature was later removed due to operational impracticality.
Stevens served extensively in the Pacific Theater, taking part in major campaigns including the Gilberts, Marshalls, Leyte, and Borneo.
She performed a variety of roles such as shore bombardment, convoy escort, and anti-aircraft defense.
After the war, she supported occupation duties in Korea and China before being decommissioned in 1946.
The ship gained additional recognition through the autobiographical comics of Sam Glanzman, who served aboard her.
