The PZL P.11c was the backbone of the Polish Air Force during the opening days of World War II.
Developed in the early 1930s by Poland’s PZL (Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze), it was an advanced design for its time, featuring an all-metal monoplane construction with a distinctive high gull-wing configuration.
Powered by a Bristol Mercury radial engine and armed with four 7.92 mm machine guns, the P.11c offered excellent maneuverability and rugged reliability, though by 1939 it was outclassed by the more modern German fighters it faced.
Despite being technologically inferior, Polish pilots flying the P.11c showed remarkable courage and skill during the September Campaign of 1939.
The aircraft’s high wing design gave pilots excellent downward visibility—an advantage in dogfights and ground attacks.
Its role in defending Polish skies became symbolic of the nation's resilience against overwhelming odds.
