IBG Models 1/72 Cromwell Mk IV British # 72156
The Cromwell Mk IV was one of the most important British cruiser tanks of the Second World War, representing a major leap forward in speed, reliability, and firepower for the British Army.
Introduced in 1943, it became the first British tank to successfully combine high mobility with effective armament and dependable mechanical performance.
Powered by the powerful Rolls-Royce Meteor V12 engine, the Cromwell Mk IV was capable of exceptional speed for its time, making it ideal for rapid manoeuvre warfare.
This allowed British armoured units to exploit breakthroughs, conduct flanking movements, and keep pace with fast-moving Allied offensives following the Normandy landings.
Armed with the 75 mm gun, the Mk IV could fire both armour-piercing and high-explosive rounds, giving it versatility against enemy armour as well as infantry positions, gun emplacements, and soft targets.
Its low profile and relatively compact size made it harder to hit than many contemporaries, while sloped armour offered improved protection without excessive weight.
The Cromwell Mk IV served extensively in North-West Europe, including Normandy, the breakout from France, Operation Market Garden, and the advance into Germany.
Although later outclassed by heavier German tanks, it remained highly respected by crews for its speed, agility, and mechanical reliability.
Today, the Cromwell Mk IV is remembered as one of Britain’s most successful wartime tank designs—an iconic symbol of British armoured forces in the later years of World War II.
