The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 Marienburg was a variant of the Fw 190 fighter aircraft used by the German Luftwaffe during World War II. It was named after the Focke-Wulf factory in Marienburg, East Prussia (now Malbork, Poland) where it was produced.
The Fw 190D-9 was designed as an improved version of the Fw 190A, with a more powerful engine and better high-altitude performance. It was powered by a Jumo 213A liquid-cooled V12 engine, which produced 2,240 horsepower and allowed the aircraft to reach a top speed of 426 mph (685 km/h).
The Fw 190D-9 was armed with two 13mm MG 131 machine guns and two 20mm MG 151/20 cannons, which made it a formidable opponent for Allied fighters. It also had improved armor protection for the pilot, a reinforced airframe, and a redesigned cockpit.
The Fw 190D-9 was used primarily in the air defense role, intercepting Allied bombers over Germany. It was also used in ground attack missions, attacking Allied ground forces and infrastructure.
Despite its impressive performance, the Fw 190D-9 was produced in relatively small numbers due to the ongoing bombing of German factories by the Allies. Nevertheless, it was a highly respected aircraft and is considered one of the best fighters of the war.
