The Pfalz E.IV was a German monoplane fighter developed during World War I as part of the Pfalz Eindecker (monoplane) series.

Introduced in 1916, it represented an attempt to improve upon earlier models by increasing firepower and engine power.

The E.IV was powered by a 160 hp Oberursel U.III rotary engine and armed with twin synchronized machine guns—making it one of the first German fighters to carry dual armament.

Structurally, the E.IV featured a mid-mounted wing and a wire-braced fuselage, similar in appearance to the French Morane-Saulnier designs it was based on.

Despite its power, the E.IV suffered from poor handling and engine reliability, limiting its operational use.

Only a small number were built, and it was quickly overshadowed by more capable biplane fighters like the Albatros series.

Today, the Pfalz E.IV remains a symbol of the transitional phase in early fighter aircraft design—bridging the gap between pioneering monoplanes and the more advanced biplanes that would come to dominate the skies of WWI.
