Italeri 1/35 Sturmgeschutz/StuG.IV # 0223
The Sturmgeschutz IV was developed on the chassis of the Panzer IV medium tank to provide the German army with an assault gun capable of effectively serving as a tank destroyer in the later stages of World War II.
The Stug IV was equipped with a Stuk40 75mm L/48 high-velocity gun installed in a casemate, protected by an armoured mantlet, capable of penetrating the armour of major enemy armoured vehicles.
Distributed to units in the early months of 1944, it supplemented and often replaced the Stug III assault gun, which had experienced a sudden decrease in production in 1943 due to increasingly frequent Allied bomber raids on German industrial areas.
Widely employed, the Stug IV was used by armoured units and anti-tank detachments of the Wehrmacht, where, thanks to its low profile, it proved to be particularly difficult to identify.

Short Description | The Sturmgeschütz IV (StuG IV) is a German assault gun used during World War II. Developed as a variant of the Panzer IV tank chassis, the StuG IV was equipped with a fixed superstructure mounting a 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48 gun. This weapon made it effective against both infantry and armoured targets, providing versatile fire support on the battlefield. The design focused on simplicity and cost-effectiveness, lacking a turret to reduce production complexity and improve armour protection. With its low profile, the StuG IV was harder to detect and target, making it well-suited for defensive operations and ambush tactics. First deployed in late 1943, the StuG IV played a significant role in German armoured units, proving to be a formidable asset in various combat scenarios. |
