Italeri 1/48 Spitfire Mk. IX Aces # 2843
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX was one of the most important and successful variants of Britain’s legendary fighter aircraft during the Second World War.
Developed as a response to the formidable German Focke-Wulf Fw 190, the Mk.IX combined the proven Spitfire airframe with the powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 61 series engine, restoring the RAF’s competitive edge in the skies over Europe.
Entering service in 1942, the Mk.IX quickly became one of the most widely produced Spitfire variants and served on nearly every front of the war.
Flown by many of the Allied air forces’ most successful fighter pilots, the Spitfire Mk.IX became closely associated with the RAF’s top aces.
Its superb manoeuvrability, high climb rate and impressive speed made it a formidable opponent in air combat, while its armament of two 20 mm cannons and machine guns provided devastating firepower.
The Spitfire Mk.IX Aces boxing represents aircraft flown by some of the most famous Spitfire pilots of the war, featuring distinctive markings and camouflage schemes that highlight the personal aircraft of these celebrated fighter aces.
The aircraft’s elegant elliptical wings, powerful Merlin engine and iconic silhouette make the Spitfire one of the most recognisable and beloved fighters in aviation history.

| Short Description | The Supermarine Spitfire fighter can undoubtedly be considered one of the most famous aircraft in the history of aviation and an icon of British aeronautical production. A single-engine, low-wing aircraft equipped with effective offensive armament, it formed, in its early versions, together with the Hawker Hurricane, the backbone of the Royal Air Force fighter units during the Battle of Britain against the German Luftwaffe. Victory in the Battle of Britain helped to secure great prestige for the Spitfire. It was characterised by its harmonious design, elliptical wing, and powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. During the war, in order to respond to the technological innovations of its adversaries that led to the development of the formidable Focke-Wulf Fw 190, the Spitfire was continuously evolved in its aerodynamic configuration and engines. The Spitfire Mk IX then entered production and, thanks to its performance, was able to compete on equal terms with the most modern German fighters. Piloted by the most famous aces of the Royal Air Force, it achieved a significant number of aerial victories. - Scale is 1/48 |
