The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb (Early) represents one of the most important and widely produced variants of Britain’s legendary fighter aircraft.
Developed as an evolution of the earlier Mk.I and Mk.II, the Mk.V was introduced in response to the growing threat posed by improved German aircraft, offering enhanced performance and increased firepower.
The “b” wing configuration of the Mk.Vb was a defining feature, equipped with two 20mm Hispano cannons and four .303 machine guns, giving it a formidable punch against both enemy fighters and bombers.
Early production versions retained many of the classic Spitfire design elements, including the elegant elliptical wings and Merlin engine, typically the Rolls-Royce Merlin 45, delivering excellent speed, climb rate, and agility.
Entering service in 1941, the Mk.Vb quickly became the backbone of RAF Fighter Command and saw extensive action across multiple theatres.
From the skies over Britain to the harsh conditions of North Africa—where tropicalised versions featured distinctive Vokes air filters—the aircraft proved highly adaptable and reliable in combat.
Renowned for its superb handling and iconic silhouette, the early Mk.Vb played a crucial role during a transitional period of the war, bridging the gap between early-war fighters and more advanced later variants.
Its combination of firepower, performance, and versatility ensured its place as one of the most celebrated versions of the Spitfire family.

Also included are windscreen with de-icing, hood with Martin-Baker jettison system, fireproof bulkhead, dual-height rudder pedals, instrument panel with rectangle & curved blind flying panels, elevator trimming wheel, ice/snow guard, engine driven undercarriage controls, composite pilot's seat, IFF Mk.II, and port wing fillets with electrical connection door. Optional Supermarine & CBAF undercarriage doors and engine top cowlings, open & closed cockpit doors, crowbar, de Havilland & Rotol propellers, and wheels with weighted tyres featuring correct alignment.
