Kovozavody Prostejov 1/72 de Havilland DH-82A Tiger Moth 'International' # 72519
The de Havilland DH-82A Tiger Moth is one of the most widely used and recognisable training aircraft in aviation history, achieving remarkable success in international service across the globe.
Developed in the early 1930s, the DH-82A became the standard primary trainer of the Royal Air Force and was rapidly adopted by air forces, flying schools, and civilian operators worldwide.
Simple, robust, and forgiving to fly, the Tiger Moth was ideally suited to basic flight training. Its tandem open cockpits, excellent low-speed handling, and predictable stall behaviour allowed thousands of novice pilots to learn essential flying skills safely.
These qualities made it especially attractive to countries developing or expanding their air arms during the inter-war and Second World War periods.
Beyond Britain, the DH-82A served with air forces in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
Many nations operated locally built versions under licence, adapting the aircraft to suit local conditions and training requirements.
During the Second World War, Tiger Moths were also used for secondary duties such as communications, navigation training, and even coastal patrol and light liaison tasks.
After the war, large numbers of surplus Tiger Moths entered civilian use, becoming a cornerstone of post-war flying clubs and private aviation worldwide.
Today, the DH-82A Tiger Moth remains an enduring symbol of international aviation training—celebrated for its global service, timeless design, and its role in teaching generations of pilots the fundamentals of flight.
