The Let L-23 Super Blanik is an advanced two-seat training and aerobatic glider developed in Czechoslovakia as a strengthened and more capable evolution of the famous Blanik series.
Introduced in the late 1960s by Let Kunovice, the L-23 was designed to meet the growing demands of modern gliding instruction, including basic aerobatics and higher-performance soaring.
Constructed primarily from metal with fabric-covered control surfaces, the Super Blanik is renowned for its exceptional structural strength and durability.
Its tandem cockpit layout provides excellent instructor–student communication, while the large canopy offers superb visibility—ideal for training, competition preparation, and display flying.
In flight, the L-23 offers responsive yet forgiving handling, allowing student pilots to progress confidently from basic flight to advanced manoeuvres such as loops, spins, and chandelles.
Although heavier than composite gliders, it delivers reliable soaring performance and stable thermalling characteristics, making it well suited to club operations across a wide range of European environments.
The “Over Europe” designation reflects the Super Blanik’s extensive service life across countless gliding clubs throughout Europe, where it became a cornerstone of pilot training for decades.
Today, the Let L-23 Super Blanik is regarded as one of the most successful training sailplanes ever built—an enduring symbol of robust engineering, versatility, and European gliding heritage.
