The Let L-23 “Super Blanik” is a two-seat training and aerobatic sailplane developed in Czechoslovakia as a more powerful and structurally reinforced successor to the well-known L-13 Blanik.
Designed by Let Kunovice, the L-23 was intended to support advanced pilot training, aerobatics, and higher-performance club soaring.
Built with a predominantly metal airframe and fabric-covered control surfaces, the Super Blanik is renowned for its exceptional strength and durability.
Its tandem cockpit layout allows clear communication between instructor and student, while the large canopy provides excellent visibility—crucial for training, competition preparation, and demonstration flying.
In flight, the L-23 offers crisp yet forgiving handling, enabling safe instruction in advanced manoeuvres such as loops, spins, and stall turns.
While heavier than modern composite gliders, it delivers dependable soaring performance and stable thermalling behaviour, making it well suited to demanding club operations.
The Let L-23 Super Blanik achieved widespread popularity across Europe and beyond, becoming a mainstay of gliding schools and clubs for decades.
Today, it is regarded as a classic training sailplane—valued for its robustness, versatility, and lasting contribution to glider pilot training worldwide.
