The Nord 262 was a French twin-engine turboprop airliner developed in the late 1950s by Nord Aviation, intended to serve short- to medium-haul regional routes.
Operated most prominently by Air Inter, the aircraft became a familiar sight across France and parts of Europe throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
Powered by reliable Turbomeca Bastan engines, the Nord 262 offered good performance from relatively short runways, making it well suited to regional airports.
Its distinctive high-mounted wing, slim fuselage, and tricycle landing gear gave it a purposeful yet elegant appearance typical of early post-war European airliner design.
In Air Inter service, the Nord 262 was finished in the airline’s classic blue and white livery and played an important role in connecting provincial cities with Paris and other major hubs.
Though later overshadowed by more modern turboprops, the Nord 262 remains an important milestone in French civil aviation history and is fondly remembered for its reliability and clean, functional design.
Today, the Nord 262 is a popular subject for aviation enthusiasts and scale modellers, representing the transition period between piston-engined transports and modern regional airliners.
