The Nord 262 was a French-designed twin-engine turboprop regional airliner that saw widespread European service during the 1960s and 1970s.
Among its notable operators were Cimber Air of Denmark and NLM CityHopper of the Netherlands, both of which used the aircraft to develop reliable short-haul regional networks.
One example, D-CADY, operated by Cimber Air, reflects the type’s versatility within Northern Europe.
Cimber employed the Nord 262 on domestic and near-international routes, where its Turbomeca Bastan engines, good short-field performance, and rugged design proved well suited to regional airports and challenging weather conditions.
The aircraft also served with NLM CityHopper, a key regional carrier that later became part of the KLM network.
In NLM service, the Nord 262 played an important role in linking smaller cities to major hubs, helping to establish the modern European commuter airline concept.
Its clean lines and distinctive high-wing layout made it instantly recognisable in NLM’s classic blue and white colour scheme.
Today, the Nord 262 in Cimber (D-CADY) and NLM CityHopper markings represents an important transitional era in European civil aviation, bridging the gap between piston-engined transports and the next generation of turboprop regional airliners.
These liveries are especially attractive subjects for scale modellers with an interest in classic European commuter aircraft.
