The Nord 262 was a French-built twin-engine turboprop regional airliner that briefly served with Dan-Air during the late 1960s, a period when the airline was expanding its short-haul and regional operations within the UK and Europe.
Powered by Turbomeca Bastan engines, the Nord 262 offered good reliability, economical operation, and the ability to use shorter runways—qualities well suited to Dan-Air’s mixed network of scheduled and charter services.
Its high-mounted wing and sturdy undercarriage made it practical for frequent operations from regional airports.
In Dan-Air service, the Nord 262 appeared in the airline’s classic red, white, and blue colour scheme, adding a distinctive turboprop type to a fleet otherwise dominated by jets and piston-engined aircraft.
Although only operated in small numbers and for a limited time, the type represents an interesting and lesser-known chapter in Dan-Air’s diverse fleet history.
Today, the Nord 262 in Dan-Air markings is a distinctive and historically appealing subject for aviation enthusiasts and scale modellers, capturing the experimental and transitional nature of British regional airline operations during the late 1960s.
