The Nord 262 was not only employed in civil airline service but also adapted for military use, serving with the French Navy (Marine Nationale) as a light transport and liaison aircraft during the 1960s and 1970s.
In naval service, the Nord 262 was used primarily for personnel transport, communications duties, and logistical support, operating between mainland France and naval air stations.
Its Turbomeca Bastan turboprop engines provided reliable performance and good fuel efficiency, while the high-wing configuration allowed for stable handling and operations from relatively short or austere airfields.
French Navy Nord 262 aircraft were typically finished in a restrained military scheme, often overall grey or light camouflage, with naval markings and serials.
While externally similar to their civil counterparts, these aircraft reflected the adaptability of the design to meet military requirements beyond commercial passenger transport.
Today, the Nord 262 in Marine Nationale service represents an interesting crossover between civil and military aviation, making it a distinctive and lesser-seen subject for aviation historians and scale modellers alike.
