The HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) M1097A2 is a heavy variant of the iconic Humvee family, designed to carry greater payloads while maintaining the rugged off-road capability that defines the series.

Introduced as part of the A2 upgrade programme, the M1097A2 features a more powerful 6.5-litre V8 diesel engine, improved cooling, reinforced suspension, and upgraded brakes to cope with heavier loads and extended operational demands.

With a payload capacity of up to 2,500 lb (1,134 kg), the M1097A2 is well suited for carrying troops, equipment, or specialist mission modules such as communications, shelter carriers, or weapon systems.

Its wide stance, four-wheel drive, and independent suspension allow it to traverse rough terrain, deserts, mud, and snow with confidence.

The A2 improvements also include reliability and comfort enhancements such as improved heating/air systems, upgraded electrical components, and refinements to the drivetrain.

Widely used by the U.S. Army and allied forces, the M1097A2 continues the Humvee’s reputation as a versatile, dependable workhorse of modern military operations.
